Job summary

Arista Networks is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to design and implement packet forwarding features in EOS. You will collaborate with customers, product management, and engineers to solve complex networking challenges with efficient data structures and algorithms.

This role emphasizes ownership from concept to deployment, with opportunities to mentor newer engineers. You will work on multi-million route tables, latency-sensitive paths, and scalable forwarding pipelines, using C/C++, Python,

Qualifications

BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with required years or equivalent experience.
Expert knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
Knowledge of UNIX or Linux.
Experience with packet forwarding chips and pipelines.
Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems.
Understanding and applying software engineering principles.
Strong problem solving and software troubleshooting skills.
Demonstrated technical leadership and strong communication skills.
Ability to design solutions and implement features independently.

Responsibilities

Interface with customers and product management to define packet forwarding features and solutions.
Architect, design and manage the development of these features.
Develop and maintain features using C, C++ and Python; build automated tests and test infrastructure.
Provide technical leadership across features, projects and tools.
Work with Customer Support Engineers and customers to analyze, mitigate and fix problems in customer networks.
Work with System Test Engineers to analyze problems and provide fixes.
Mentor new and junior engineers to bring them up to speed.
