Job summary

Green Corps is seeking a Lead Organizer to recruit and train environmental organizers and supervise campaigns under the Executive Director. The role requires national movement building and geographic flexibility to move for campaigns.

You will train staff, develop classroom and field curricula, oversee 1-2 entry-level organizers, and coordinate 3-5 campaigns per year while engaging partner organizations and donors. Strong communication and travel willingness are essential.

Job description

Green Corps is searching for a Lead Organizer to help recruit and train environmental organizers and impact critical environmental campaigns. The Lead Organizer will work under the guidance of the Executive Director to supervise the training and development of a team of organizers and manage a series of grassroots environmental campaigns on behalf of our partner organizations. The position requires geographic flexibility to move for campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Organizer will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement Green Corps’ organizer training curriculum and manage grassroots campaigns. Major components of the position include:

  • Work as part of the senior staff team to develop and implement the classroom and field training curriculum for new trainees.
  • Oversee the development of 1-2 entry-level organizers. Conduct weekly planning meetings and periodic site visits and provide ongoing feedback and evaluations.
  • Serve as a trainer for 8 weeks of classroom training. Run training sessions on grassroots organizing skills and strategies.
  • Manage 3-5 short term field campaigns each year. Serve as a liaison and consultant to our environmental partner organizations, assist in campaign development and strategy, coordinate conference calls with partner organizations, and track and evaluate progress.
  • Recruit applicants for Green Corps by conducting online and campus recruitment outreach efforts. Oversee a team of recruiters and conduct phone and in-person interviews to help select the incoming class of organizers.
  • Participate in organizational fundraising efforts by conducting major donor meetings, writing letters, and coordinating fundraising events.
  • Run a grassroots campaign office in the summer to raise money to support our campaigns, build our organization and membership, and help build critical and timely grassroots support to win key campaigns while honing your organizing and management skills. You may be assigned to a different office location for the summer and should be flexible to move.
  • This position requires exercising discretion and independent judgment in making decisions in matters of significance.

Compensation and Benefits

The target annual compensation is $40,500 (but compensation may range between $40,500 and $44,747 depending on location). Green Corps offers an excellent benefits package. Our benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, paid sick time (60-72 hours/year depending on location), accrued vacation time (accruing 10 days over year 1, 15 days over year 2, and 20 days over year 3 and thereafter), a commuter benefit program, a 401(k) plan with employer match, parental leave, long term disability insurance, and may include needs-based student loan assistance. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.

Location: Green Corps’ headquarters is in Denver, CO, but this position requires moving to different campaign locations throughout the year.
