Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or teaching certificate from out of state appropriate for the position.
  • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to learning; evaluate student playing abilities and place them in appropriate orchestra ensembles.
  • Organize and implement all aspects of the instrument selection process for beginning orchestra students.
  • Stay informed of rules and regulations for contests in which students and orchestras participate and communicate them to appropriate persons.
  • Continuously improve instructional quality through self‑evaluation and adoption of new teaching techniques.
  • Enhance the image of the orchestra department by exhibiting professionalism toward school personnel and the community.
  • Assume responsibility for all instruments and equipment assigned to the program.
  • Communicate all matters relating to the operation of the orchestra program to the Director of Performing Arts and Building Principal.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; conduct ongoing assessment through formal and informal testing.
  • Be a positive role model and support the mission of the school district.
  • Create a learning environment that supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students; manage behavior per Student Code of Conduct.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; assist in selecting instructional materials.
  • Maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, teachers; maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills; keep informed of state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required records and documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Enhance the image of the orchestra department by exhibiting professionalism toward other school personnel and the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
