Actalent is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer in Manassas, VA to develop next-generation embedded Linux software for submarine acoustic systems. You will work on Linux kernel components, device drivers, and integration for custom hardware, driving architecture discussions and building substantial new software from scratch.

The role requires 3+ years of Linux experience, strong C/C++ skills, scripting with Bash/Python, and eligibility to obtain a US Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience with Linux operating systems, including kernel development.
• Hands-on experience with Linux kernel components, modules, and device drivers.
• Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded Linux environments.
• Proficiency with Bash and Python for scripting and automation.
• Strong understanding of Linux OS internals and embedded Linux development.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to design and development of Linux kernel components and device drivers for custom hardware.
• Write, review, and maintain high-quality C/C++ code for embedded Linux applications.
• Develop scripts in Bash and Python to support build, test and automation tasks.
• Integrate and debug Linux on embedded systems with custom hardware.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to ensure software/hardware integration.
