Job summary

Midstate Radiology Associates (MRA) in Meriden, CT, seeks a Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist to lead the Nuclear Medicine department at MidState Medical Center, with occasional coverage at Wallingford Imaging and Hospital of Central Connecticut - New Britain/Plainville.

A sign-on bonus will be offered to well-qualified candidates. Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:00 am–3:30 pm or 7:30 am–4:00 pm, rotating by department needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of a JRCNMT accredited nuclear medicine technology program.
• Certification through NMTCB or ARRT (N).
• CPR certification.
• Maintenance of continuing education credits as required by licensure.
• Associates or Applied Science Degree in related field is desirable.
• At least three years of experience in Nuclear Medicine is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and administers radioactive agents with IV injection to assist diagnosis and treatment.
• Assesses appropriateness of requested exams using guidelines to ensure accuracy.
• Operates nuclear imaging equipment to provide diagnostic images for physician planning.
• Performs quality control tests on imaging, hot lab equipment, and radiopharmaceuticals.
• Adheres to NRC radiation safety standards and disposal regulations.
• Maintains Nuclear medicine equipment and schedules service/calibration.
• Cleans and disinfects equipment; maintains orderly work area.
• Demonstrates yearly competencies to meet patient needs.
• Ensures Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT equipment maintain accreditation and compliance.
• Coordinates daily staff assignments and departmental coverage.

Job Summary :

Leads and supports the daily operations of the Nuclear Medicine department while providing direct patient care. Performs nuclear medicine procedures by operating nuclear imaging equipment and following established departmental and clinical protocols to produce high-quality diagnostic images and support appropriate patient treatment. Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to staff, promotes efficient workflow, and ensures compliance with departmental policies, hospital standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations, including NRC, TJC, and Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) guidelines.

Key Accountabilities:

• Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to established procedures for preparation of kits and IV injection of agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing/imaging to assist the radiologist in diagnosis and treatment.
• Assesses the appropriateness of requested exams by using pre-established guidelines for exam ordering to ensure that the exam is performed accurately the first time.
• Operates nuclear detection, imaging, and computer processing equipment for nuclear radiologic studies by following professional, hospital, and departmental protocols to provide the physician with diagnostic images to identify and/or plan appropriate treatment for the patient’s condition.
• Performs periodic quality control tests on imaging, hot lab equipment, and radiopharmaceuticals by checking equipment performance and quality of agents administered in accordance with department standards to ensure the integrity of the system and patient safety.
• Adheres to standards for radiation safety and for appropriate waste separation and disposal of radioactive agents by performing specific tasks mandated by the NRC to maintain compliance with NRC licensing regulations.
• Maintains the Nuclear medicine equipment in good operating order. Places work orders/tickets with the appropriate service lines to maintain periodic testing and calibration of equipment.
• Cleans and disinfects equipment according to hospital policies. Maintains the work area remains orderly. Reports any hazardous conditions or breakdowns to the manager.
• Demonstrates yearly competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to conduct examinations and meet the needs of patients regarding patient’s age, condition, or other special requirements.
• Ensure Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT equipment maintains accreditation and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with coordinating daily staff assignments and scheduling to maintain appropriate departmental coverage.
