Job summary

Mission1 seeks an applied behavioral scientist with expertise in non-invasive behavioral assessment, nonverbal sensing, kinesics, and interview dynamics to translate research into practical measurement methods and user guidance.

You will collaborate with company leadership and technical specialists to shape research priorities, guide development, and evaluate whether proposed capabilities improve human performance, with flexible work-from-home options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience conducting behavioral research and validating assessment methods.
• Expertise in nonverbal behavior, kinesics, or interpersonal communication.
• Strong experimental design, statistics, and measurement validity knowledge.
• Experience observing, categorizing, or measuring human behavior.
• Ability to distinguish observable behavior from inferred intent.
• Ability to translate research into practical requirements.
• Excellent written communication and ability to work independently in a small team.
• Willingness to sign an NDA.

Responsibilities

• Review and synthesize research on non-invasive assessment and nonverbal sensing.
• Develop frameworks for measuring observable behavior and facial movements.
• Establish baselines and assess changes over time with context in mind.
• Inform interview-support tools and evaluator workflows.
• Design studies and data plans covering measurement methods and analysis.
• Plan feasibility studies comparing evaluator performance with technology aid.
• Define meaningful performance measures and reporting quality.
• Assess confounding factors like stress, culture, and recording conditions.
• Create user-facing explanations of observations and uncertainties.
• Set validation criteria and evidence requirements for product claims.
• Support ethics, consent, privacy, and IRB requirements.
• Prepare concise research summaries and contribute to documentation.
• Perform other duties to support research and development.
