Job description

At RapidScale, exceptional technology is powered by exceptional people. As a growing leader in secure, reliable managed cloud solutions, we help SMBs and enterprises alike simplify IT and unleash innovation. With a broad portfolio spanning AWS, Azure, and Google, as well as Private Cloud and Cybersecurity solutions, RapidScale helps companies turn technology into their biggest competitive advantage. As part of the Cox family of companies, we offer best-in-class benefits, a commitment to work-life balance, and an award-winning workplace experience.

We, the Rapidscale Managed Network Operations (MNO) team, are seeking a Lead Network Engineer to serve as the highest escalation point for complex network challenges while supervising a team that provides proactive health monitoring of customer managed networks and services. This role combines deep technical expertise with proven leadership skills, requiring a critical thinker who can navigate complex network architectures, identify intricate communication issues, and troubleshoot network security and firewall failures to protect critical customer systems.

Beyond technical problem-solving, this individual will take ownership of a third-party offshore alert monitoring team, ensuring seamless 24/7 oversight of network health and performance. Responsibilities include providing clear direction during high-impact network events, coordinating response efforts, incident commanding, and driving issues to resolution efficiently. Prior team management experience is essential, as this role balances hands-on technical work with guiding and developing internal engineers and external monitoring resources.

The ideal candidate is an experienced network technology expert with proven leadership skills, comfortable handling escalations, managing incidents, and leading teams toward operational excellence. This is a high-impact environment for a skilled engineer to leverage leadership experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Resolving complex network issues and supervising a team monitoring network incidents.
  2. Driving results by tracking KPI metrics, communicating effectively, hiring, and developing team members.
  3. Supervising and mentoring a third-party offshore alert monitoring team.
  4. Serving as SME and lead advisor for the Managed Network Support organization.
  5. Providing Tier-3 support for troubleshooting and escalation.
  6. Leading incident resolution for high-priority outages.
  7. Collaborating with various teams on network projects.
  8. Supporting Tier-1 and Tier-2 support teams and sales engineering.
  9. Enhancing network alert monitoring processes and reviewing performance data.
  10. Leading team meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  11. Developing and improving operational processes.
  12. Collaborating with vendors, ISPs, and other support entities.
  13. Acting as a communication bridge among teams and customers.
  14. Maintaining awareness of evolving technical and operational challenges.
  15. Participating in on-call duties and occasional off-hours work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years’ related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Deep understanding of OSI model or TCP/IP, protocols like TCP/UDP, Routing and Switching, VPN, VLAN, BGP, QoS, MPLS, DHCP, and network security.
  • Experience with LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi technologies, and network performance management tools.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of server virtualization and network monitoring tools.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP, JNCIP, VeloCloud VCP, or Fortinet NSE4 preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proven SD-WAN experience with vendors like VeloCloud, Fortinet, or Meraki.
  • Experience with VMware, Fortinet NGFW, and network orchestration tools.
  • Advanced certifications like CCIE, JNCIE, or NSE7 are a plus.

Salary range: USD 108,800 - 181,400 annually, with potential additional compensation. Benefits include flexible paid time off, holidays, wellness hours, health insurance, retirement plans, and more.
