Job description

Under the general supervision of the Unit Operations Manager of MRI, the incumbent establishes, manages, and monitors standards and processes; communicates and trains on systems to ensure department guidelines are adhered to and upheld to the MGH Imaging Department standards. Collaborates with radiologists, departmental leadership, and staff to ensure that protocols, patient care processes, dosing and imaging are performed per protocol. Ensures safe MRI practices in accordance with departmental standards. The individual must demonstrate problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and exceptional communication skills. Assists in third-party accreditation processes such as ACR, Joint Commission, etc.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Meets all responsibilities of an MRI Technologist Tier 1 position.
  2. Prepares patients, positions them, sets imaging parameters, performs computer processing, and displays images.
  3. Performs scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanner and related equipment, records QA results, and reports potential equipment issues.
  4. Prepares for and administers intravenous MR contrast agents, monitors for adverse reactions, and records all relevant information.
  5. Performs point of care testing as needed and instructs patients and visitors on MR safety procedures.
  6. Ensures adherence to safety practices and reviews outpatient schedules for protocol and contraindications.
  7. Acts as a final safety check and communicates with radiologists for protocol clarification.
  8. Mentors new staff and technologists, and assists in visitor and staff instruction.
  9. Adheres to departmental policies, reviews patient screening forms, and utilizes departmental tools to confirm safety and dosing.
  10. Maintains a clean and organized work environment, monitors inventory, and assists with departmental duties such as scheduling and patient transport.
  11. Develops knowledge of MR physics and keeps current with new developments.
  12. Identifies hazardous malfunctions and manages emergency situations appropriately.
  13. Performs other related duties as required.
Skills & Competencies Required:
  • Ability to operate complex electronic equipment and perform quality control procedures.
  • Physical ability to transfer and lift patients and equipment.
  • Ability to provide appropriate care to various age groups and communicate effectively in English.
Required Qualifications:
  • BLS certification
  • Registered Technologist in Magnetic Resonance (R.T.(MR))
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Imaging program
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Radiation Licensure in Massachusetts
