Job summary

The City of Buffalo seeks an experienced Head Motor Equipment Mechanic to supervise and perform skilled repair work on a wide range of motorized vehicles and equipment in Buffalo, NY. The incumbent handles difficult tasks, directs a team, and reports to department leadership.

The position requires knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, preventive maintenance, and the ability to inspect vehicles under NYS rules.

Qualifications

Experience supervising repair teams and planning work.
Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines.
Ability to read plans and specifications.
Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs.
Ability to perform NYS vehicle inspections.

Responsibilities

Supervises and participates in repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, tractors, bulldozers, graders, snowplows and other automotive or motorized vehicles and equipment.
Leads in the repair of gasoline and diesel motor equipment, such as passenger automobiles, trucks and apparatus.
Troubleshoots vehicles and equipment and prescribes needed repairs.
Repairs/overhauls brake systems, differentials, transmissions and front or rear axles.
Maintains records and reports concerning vehicle maintenance and repair activities.
Requisitions parts, materials and supplies needed in repairing of equipment and vehicles.
May road test equipment after completion of repair work.
May install, troubleshoot and repair vehicles radio equipment.
Performs related work in connection with the maintenance and repair activities of the repair shop.
