Job summary

The University at Buffalo is seeking a Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) in the Campus Operations department. You will perform skilled mechanical work for fleet maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel equipment.

Field work may be required for routine maintenance and repairs. Responsibilities include diagnosing repairs, maintaining engines and hydraulic systems, performing safety inspections, and potentially supervising staff.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS CDL B driver license with Tow Truck/Tanker/Airbrake endorsements.
• Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for diagnosing faults and performing repairs across multiple systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and perform major and minor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Install body and fender work on vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain gasoline, alternative fuel, and diesel engines; perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections; conduct NYS Motor Vehicle Inspections when licensed.
• Overhaul components including transmissions, differentials, brakes, and engine systems; test with appropriate equipment.
• Operate test equipment and hand/power tools; work with electronic engine control systems.
