The role requires hands-on diagnostics of light to heavy-duty trucks, inventory management on company trucks, and strong client communication. Weekly pay and comprehensive benefits are included.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with required years of related experience.
  • Own a set of hand tools to perform duties.
  • ASE T8 PMI, ASE 608/609, and ASE C1 certifications within 18 months.
  • DOT pre-employment background and DOT physical clearance.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Driver Qualification File.

Responsibilities

  • Perform PM, DOT inspections, and repairs on trucks in field/mobile settings.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, braking, cooling and engine systems.
  • Road test vehicles to verify repairs and proper operation.
  • Order parts, manage inventory, and document work orders in TRAIT.
  • Maintain safety checks and post- trip/ pre-trip inspections.
  • Communicate with customers to assess needs and provide estimates.

Job description

Cox Fleet offers on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers across the United States. We are currently hiring a Lead Mobile Diesel Technician to perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, and advanced repairs in a field environment.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgement.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift, and jacks.
  • Document according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings observed on repair orders ("RO") using a company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for the repairs performed.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, and DOT).
  • Support Mobile Diesel Technicians I/II/Sr in inventory reconciliation.
  • Mentor Mobile Diesel Technicians I/II/Sr on best practices and techniques to stay within or close to most standard repair times.
  • Assist the Mobile Tech Manager with quality control inspections on work performed by Mobile Diesel Technicians I/II/Sr.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and seven years of experience, or a higher degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline with five years of experience, or nine years of experience in a related field.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification C1 (Service Consultant) within eighteen (18) months.
  • Obtain 608/609 certification within eighteen (18) months.
  • Complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
  • Provide a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining, or complete a DOT physical if less than four months remain.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Compensation

Hourly pay rate: $35.58 – $53.37 per hour. The base rate may vary within this range based on location and qualifications. The position may also include commission, annual or monthly incentives, and other forms of additional compensation.
