Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to drive design, development, and deployment of ML solutions at scale in Chicago. You will lead cross-functional teams to build data-intensive models and scalable data pipelines, applying responsible AI practices and CI/CD automation.

The role requires 6+ years of distributed computing experience and strong Python/Scala/Java skills, plus hands-on ML framework expertise and cloud deployment experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; 6+ years designing and building data-intensive solutions
• 4+ years programming with Python, Scala, or Java
• 2+ years building, scaling, and optimizing ML systems
• Master's or Doctoral degree in CS/EE/math or related field is preferred
• 3+ years building production-ready data pipelines for ML models
• 3+ years experience with ML frameworks such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, Spark, or TensorFlow
• 2+ years experience developing performant, resilient, and maintainable code

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deliver ML models and components with Product and Data Science teams
• Inform ML infrastructure decisions: model, data, feature selection, training, validation
• Write, test, and deploy ML models and automation
• Collaborate in an Agile cross-functional team for big data/ML apps
• Retrain, maintain, and monitor models in production
• Utilize cloud architectures to deploy optimized ML models at scale
• Construct data pipelines to feed ML models
• Apply CI/CD, test automation, monitoring for deployments
• Ensure code governance and responsible/Explainable AI practices
• Use Python, Scala, or Java for development
