Job summary

Pleasantville Public Schools in Pleasantville, NJ seeks an Athletic Coach to lead extracurricular sports programs, coach athletes, and uphold district standards. The role requires NJ certification eligibility, strong communication, and a commitment to student growth and safety.

The position is part-time with a stipend per season; reports to the Principal or Administrator. Candidates must meet district and state certification and health requirements as outlined by the board.

Qualifications

• Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate or eligibility or County Substitute Certificate.
• Minimum experience as determined by the board.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the sport, training and conditioning, injury prevention and human development.
• Ability to maintain a positive learning environment and high conduct standards for athletes.
• Ability to read and write.
• Be in good physical health and able to perform duties.
• Demonstrate integrity and moral character and initiative.
• Interpersonal skills to relate with students, staff, administration, parents and community.
• Residency in New Jersey or waiver or agree to obtain residency within one year.
• Communicate effectively in English, both oral and written.
• Provide proof of citizenship or legal resident status (I-9).
• Evidence of criminal history check clearance by the Department of Education; sworn statement if within six months.
• Health adequate per 42 U.S.C. 12101 and NJAC 6:3-4A.4; and pass Mantoux TB test.

Responsibilities

• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for success in the sport.
• Supervise team members; enforce rules and promote good sportsmanship.
• Comply with emergency medical procedures for practices and contests.
• Select team members and verify eligibility per physical and academic requirements.
• Plan and schedule regular practice, attend all contests.
• Ensure safety conditions of facilities during activities.
• Manage team equipment and assist in distribution/collection.
• Assist athletic director with arrangements for competitions and transportation.
• Recommend equipment, supplies and uniforms purchase.
• Obtain written parent permission and maintain team records.
• Assist in budget preparation and enforcement of district policies.
