Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is required.
  • Completed mentor training per SC guidelines to become a certified mentor.
  • Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in South Carolina at continuing-contract level.
  • Thorough knowledge of ADEPT Performance Standards and state academic standards.
  • Strong data-driven instructional decision making and technology proficiency.

POSITION PURPOSE

District Lead Mentors as part of the District Mentoring Team develop Beaufort County's Induction Program that provides teachers with comprehensive guidance and assistance throughout the school year, as well as provide teachers with formal written feedback on their strengths and weaknesses relative to state standards for teaching effectiveness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Support 20 – 30 beginning teachers using the South Carolina Mentoring Model.
  • Engage in the Formative Evaluation Process with beginning teachers based on the ADEPT Performance Standards.
  • Meet weekly with each beginning teacher.
  • Complete all required record keeping prior to deadlines.
  • Work collaboratively with beginning teachers and principals.
  • Participate in all required professional development activities.
  • Communicate regularly with the District Mentoring Team.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Chief Administrative and Human Resources Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training.
  • Minimum of three (3) successful years teaching in South Carolina at the continuing-contract level.
  • Completed mentor training in accordance with South Carolina guidelines to become a certified mentor.
  • Has thorough knowledge of the ADEPT Performance Standards and the state's academic standards for each discipline
  • Has a thorough knowledge of researched-based instructional strategies and effective student assessment based on the state's academic standards.
  • A high level of competency in data-driven instructional decisions.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in application of technology
EXPERIENCE
  • Experience as an effective South Carolina trained mentor
  • Minimum of three (3) successful years teaching in South Carolina at the continuing-contract level.
