Beaufort County School District is seeking a part-time District Mentor Teacher to support beginning teachers by guiding classroom practices, implementing instructional strategies, and using targeted assessment.

The role requires mentoring up to 10 teachers, weekly observations, feedback based on the ADEPT 4.0 rubric, and collaboration with administrators. Training will be provided for assignment throughout the year.

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid South Carolina educator certificate (Classroom-based teacher; Speech; Media Specialist; School Guidance Counselor)
  • Minimum of three (3) successful years teaching in South Carolina at the continuing-contract level
  • Completed mentor training in accordance with South Carolina guidelines to become a certified mentor
  • Has thorough knowledge of the South Carolina Teaching Standards based on the ADEPT 4.0 Rubric
  • Has a thorough knowledge of researched-based instructional strategies and effective student assessment based on the state’s academic standards for each discipline or content
  • A high level of competency in data-driven instructional decisions
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in application of technology

Responsibilities

  • Support a maximum of 10 beginning teachers using the South Carolina Mentoring Model
  • Willingness and the ability to engage in non-evaluative assessment processes, including the ability to hold planning and reflective conversations with beginning teachers about their classroom practices
  • Engage in the Formative Evaluation Process with beginning teachers based on the South Carolina Teaching Standards and have the ability to communicate areas of reinforcement and refinement using the ADEPT 4.0 Rubric
  • Observe and/or meet weekly with each beginning teacher to provide suggestions and formative feedback
  • Complete all required record keeping prior to deadlines
  • Work collaboratively with beginning teachers and building Administrators
  • Participate in all required professional development activities
  • Communicate regularly with the District Lead Mentors/Mentoring Team

District Mentor Teacher

Position Type: Certified - Part Time

POSITION PURPOSE: Part-time District Mentors support beginning teachers and assist them in developing strategies for classroom management, implementing instructional strategies, and using targeted assessment. District Mentors also support Induction teachers all aspects of their professional development by providing formal written feedback on areas of reinforcement and areas of refinement based on the SCTS 4.0 Rubric. Training will be provided for Part-time District Mentors on assignment, throughout the year, as they offer assistance and support for Induction teachers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Support a maximum of 10 beginning teachers using the South Carolina Mentoring Model
  • Willingness and the ability to engage in non-evaluative assessment processes, including the ability to hold planning and reflective conversations with beginning teachers about their classroom practices
  • Engage in the Formative Evaluation Process with beginning teachers based on the South Carolina Teaching Standards and have the ability to communicate areas of reinforcement and refinement using the ADEPT 4.0 Rubric

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Chief Administrative and Human Resources Officer, Personnel Director, District Lead Mentors, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess a valid (i.e. active) South Carolina educator certificate (Classroom-based teacher; Speech; Media Specialist; School Guidance Counselor)
  • Minimum of three (3) successful years teaching in South Carolina at the continuing-contract level
  • Completed mentor training in accordance with South Carolina guidelines to become a certified mentor
  • Has thorough knowledge of the South Carolina Teaching Standards based on the ADEPT 4.0 Rubric

EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience as an effective South Carolina trained mentor (preferred)
  • Minimum of three (3) successful years teaching in South Carolina at the continuing-contract level
