Description:
Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Takes on lead role in the assigned laboratory area of clinical specialty.
Reports to: Laboratory Director
Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing. Assists with specimen collection when required and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collects blood and study blood samples used in transfusions
Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner. Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards. Performs automated tests using automated equipment. Performs automated and manual laboratory testing per department policy. Oversees Quality Assurance program for assigned laboratory area. Takes lead role in assigned laboratory area of clinical specialty as determined by Lab Director. Participates and attends meetings as required and/or assigned Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students in assigned laboratory area of clinical specialty. Navigates Laboratory Information System proficiently.
Qualifications:
Minimum EducationBachelor's degree in a laboratory, chemical, biological or physical science - Required
Graduation from NAACLS-Accredited Program - Preferred Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Required SkillsLicenses:
Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist Certification (ASCP or AMT) or State of Tennessee Medical Technologist Generalist - Required Minimum Work Experience
One (1) years experience in a clinical laboratory as a technologist, hospital environment - Required
One (1) year experience in lead tech or management/supervisor position - Preferred
