Responsibilities:

Under the direction of laboratory management, the laboratory technologist is responsible for leading all aspects of operation in the assigned section/team/department. This includes preparation and maintenance of records, reports, policies, and procedures; analysis of testing methodologies; employee training and staffing; technical oversight; and ensuring compliance. The technologist collaborates with team members to coordinate tasks, priorities, goals, and achievements with management. They assist with test validations, regulatory compliance, quality control/assurance, and maintenance within the assigned area. The role involves performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing, monitoring, treating, and preventing disease.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent, plus sufficient college and/or technical courses and clinical training to meet testing and certification requirements as a medical technologist by an approved certifying agency.
2. Minimum Experience Required: Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology, or a related biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.) preferred.
3. Minimum Licensure/Certification Required by Law: Three (3) years of hospital experience required.
4. Additional Qualifications: Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists), or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations. AAB provisional certification is not accepted.
