Job summary

Firelands Health in Sandusky, OH seeks a Lead Technologist to oversee the laboratory and support physicians, nursing staff, and coworkers in a fast-paced setting.

Requires an associate degree in medical technology or equivalent with relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree is acceptable with experience. ASCP/AMT certification is required; specialty certification preferred. Mobility and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology with at least two years of high complexity testing experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science with at least one year of high complexity testing experience.
• Qualified as a general supervisor prior to February 28, 1992, or could have qualified.
• Certification: MT/MLS/CLS/MLT/HT/HLT with ASCP, AMT or equivalent; specialty certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead Technologists oversee their area of expertise and act as a resource to physicians and staff.
• Perform laboratory tests and procedures and monitor instrumentation and quality control.
• Coordinate new test development and staff training; ensure competency.

What You Will Do:

Lead Technologists provide oversight of their area of expertise. Acts as a resource person to physicians, nursing, and other personnel. Performs laboratory tests and procedures. Monitors the operation of instrumentation, staff training and competency, and quality control in their area of expertise. Coordinates new test development.

What You Will Need:

Required: Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology or equivalent with at least two years of experience in high complexity testing in the designated discipline; or

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology with at least one year of experience in high complexity testing in the designated discipline; or

Have previously qualified or could have qualified as a general supervisor prior to February 28, 1992.

MT, MLS, CLS, MLT, HT or HLT certification with ASCP, AMT or equivalent required.

Specialty certification preferred.

Has a complete understanding of laboratory and Firelands Health policies. Has a complete understanding of laboratory procedures.

CPR/BLS certification preferred.

Ability to be mobile.

Ability to exhibit dexterity and to differentiate colors.

Ability to read and write small letters and numbers, with extreme attention to detail required.

Basic computer literacy.

Ability to work in a stressful environment; ability to handle multiple priorities, and concentrate and communicate effectively in both oral and written form with management, patients, and co-workers.

Assumes a leadership role as needed. Ability to handle pressure and set example for staff.
