Job summary

Silicon Valley Medical Development is seeking a Lead Medical Assistant to oversee the work of team members in a community-based healthcare setting. Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Silicon Valley Medical Development, (SVMD) LLC is a growing provider services organization with community-based ambulatory care clinics and practices in Santa Clara County.

SVMD seeks to coordinate care that best fit the needs of the communities we serve, with like-minded people who want to simplify the healthcare experience. With a commitment to teamwork and quality, together we can offer exceptional care to our patients.

Performs duties of MA as well as serves as project or team leader, overseeing the work output of others, and staffing and/or scheduling MA’s. The Lead MA fills-in or acts as supervisor in event of supervisor’s temporary absence, and assists managers/ supervisors in performance management responsibilities such as tracking time/attendance, monitoring daily duties, and providing feedback and guidance to staff. NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN EXEMPT SUPEVISORY POSITION

Essential Functions:

Rooming

  • Apply time management protocols to keep providers on schedule & minimize patient wait time.
  • Consistently performs rooming procedure and follows rooming standards to ensure patient is fully prepared for the provider.
  • EPIC environment: review charts for open orders, needed preventative services, and Quality Measures
  • Assists the patients’ care team in implementing the plan of care for the patient in a collaborative and professional manner.
  • Notifies patients of possible wait times throughout their time in the clinic setting as well as updating the provider wait times.
  • Follows clinic protocols for late patients.

Patient Care/Back-Office Procedures

  • Performs and assists providers with routine and/or specialized clinical procedures within the MA scope of practice and department policies, in a timely manner.
  • Administers ordered medications and vaccines in a safe, accurate, professional and timely manner following policies and procedures which includes consistently verifying medication with a licensed person prior to administration.
  • Performs routine screenings and places orders for patients who are due for quality measures and completes point of care testing in a timely, accurate and efficient manner according to policy and procedure.

Communication and Documentation

  • Accurately collects and transmits information between the patient and provider in a courteous, respectful and professional manner, within MA scope of practice; refers care outside of the MA scope of practice to the appropriate licensed personnel.
  • Communicates updates to patient requests.

Documents appropriate information clearly, accurately and in a timely manner, according to department and SVMD policies and procedures .

Training and Development

  • Trained as a preceptor and precepts SVMD new hires and MA students
  • Develops, gains approval, and completes a special individual project to improve the clinical setting (i.e., develops and/or revises departmental procedure, develops departmental guidelines for improved service or increased efficiencies, etc.)
  • Serves as a role model and exhibits solid patient/guest/colleague relations skills (tie this to our new WeCare Program so rephrase as needed)

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Medical Assistant Certification from one of the qualified organizations required:
    • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • California Medical Assistants Association (CMAA)
    • American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • Has completed at least one (1) year of service as a Medical Assistant at SVMD
  • Has an overall average employee performance rating of 2.5 or higher, with no individual category rating below 2.0 (i.e., meets expectations) on the most recent performance review
  • Has no active Corrective Action Verbal or Written Warnings within the last 12 months of employment at the time of promotion
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Experience working with an EMR
  • Ability to accurately type a minimum of 40 WPM
  • Strong verbal and written communications, and active listening skills
  • Solid patient/guest relations skills with the ability to communicate in a professional, courteous and efficient manner
  • Legible handwriting
  • Ability to accurately perform basic math
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize task in order to complete assignments within the time allotted to maintain standard workflow
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member who is flexible, cooperative and willing to assist others
