Job summary

Optum in California is seeking a Lead Medical Assistant Float to provide high-quality patient care across multiple clinics in the Pacific West region. You will support physicians and nursing staff with injections, EKGs, and phlebotomy, document in EMR, and coordinate patient care in a fast-paced environment.

You will travel to various locations within the region, assist with telephonic outreach and remote tasks, and collaborate with care teams to ensure seamless patient experiences.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program.
  • BLS certification from AHA or willing to obtain by date of hire.
  • 4+ years of experience working as a Medical Assistant.
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel to various locations within designated region/pod.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers high-quality patient care across face-to-face, telephone, and electronic interactions at multiple clinics within the region.
  • Collects and documents patient information including vital signs and medication history.
  • Assists physicians and nursing staff with injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and other procedures as directed.
  • Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians and company standards.
  • Maintains EMR and paper-based documentation for assessments and procedures.

As a Senior Medical Assistant Float at Optum, you will learn from health care experts as you work side by side to provide care for patients in a clinical setting. As a float you will provide critical coverage across multiple clinics for short-term staffing needs and will occasionally work from an administrative site to support telephonic outreach, remote tasking support, and other remote patient care activities. You will build meaningful relationships with patients, their family members, health care providers, and office staff while providing high-quality direct patient care. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Delivers high-quality patient care through face-to-face, telephone, and electronic contact for examination, treatment, monitoring, and preparing for diagnostic tests or procedures at various sites and departments within an assigned geographic region
  • Collects and documents patient information, including vital signs, chief complaints, reviews of medications, allergies, health risk screening information, the status of extended care benefits, and other services
  • Assists physicians and nursing personnel with injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and other patient care procedures as directed
  • Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians, company standards, and policies
  • Assists with tasks, phone calls, and messages; documents all taken actions
  • Proper, concise, and complete EMR documentation and paper-based documentation for all assessments and procedures
  • Prepares and cleans patient rooms and sets up instruments and equipment according to protocol while maintaining infection control

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or willing to obtain by date of hire
  • 4+ years of experience working as a Medical Assistant
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel to various locations within designated region/pod
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Preceptor Certification
  • 3+ years of experience in a multi-provider setting
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
