Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer (Starship) in Starbase, TX to lead a team responsible for avionics mechanical design with emphasis on high producibility and reliability in harsh launch environments.

You will partner with avionics and production teams to optimize mass, cost, and manufacturability, performing FEA and hand calculations while driving design for rapid builds and robust testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of professional experience designing mechanical components or assemblies.
• Onsite in Starbase, TX; remote work not available.
• ITAR requirements and eligibility as US person.

Responsibilities

• Own avionics mechanical design within Starship avionics team.
• Lead design, architecture trades, and first-order sizing.
• Develop requirements where undefined and drive manufacturability.
• Perform FEA and hand calculations to optimize mass, cost, and performance.
• Support production with design improvements and issue resolution.
• Develop development, acceptance, and qualification test plans.
• Ensure alignment with manufacturing for rapid builds and delivery.
