Job summary

Lykos Industries is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to own advanced hardware for our pilot line and modular micro-factory units in Atlanta, GA. You will design, procure, build, commission, and debug real hardware—additive and subtractive platforms, robotics, and automation—working closely with the COO and the Head of Data & Software.

This builder's role requires you to set engineering standards, select vendors, and grow the mechanical team while ensuring AS9100 and ITAR-aligned processes.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or precision environments.
• Direct, hands-on expertise in machining, fixturing, finishing, and metrology.
• Experience designing and deploying automation and robotics in production settings.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical engineering end-to-end for pilot line and modular units: design, build, commission, sustain.
• Architect system envelopes, utilities, mobility, serviceability, transport and field install.
• Integrate additive manufacturing with ceramic workflows: build platforms and handling.
• Own machining, additive, finishing, coating, and inspection processes for micro-factory components.
• Oversee system integration, qualification, automation, and robotics with safety standards.
• Integrate laser-enabled processing with ceramic workflows including optics and safety.
• Collaborate with data software teams so data is structured from day one.
• Design tooling and manage vendor selection, FAT/SAT and CAPEX justification.
• Establish engineering discipline: drawings, revisions, ECO, BOM, PLM per AS9100/defense standards.
• Identify throughput constraints and cost inflection points before they impact production.
• Recruit and mentor a small mechanical engineering team as the operation scales.
