Job summary

Sila Nanotechnologies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our Equipment Engineering team in Alameda to lead the design of manufacturing-scale reactors and bridge R&D concepts to production. You’ll focus on equipment development for our Silicon Carbon anode manufacturing technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical design experience in industrial equipment environments.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD and development of P&IDs and fabrication packages.
• Strong technical expertise in reactor systems, thermal/fluid equipment, and high-temperature design is desirable.
• Analytical proficiency in FEA analysis, thermal modeling, and precision tolerancing.
• Working knowledge of mechanical codes, industrial regulations, and PSM environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead design initiatives for manufacturing-scale reactors, prioritizing simplicity and removing unnecessary requirements.
• Lead mechanical design and development tasks for manufacturing-scale reactors, bridging R&D concepts to capital projects.
• Provide technical oversight with high-fidelity thermal, fluid, and structural modeling (FEA).
• Develop detailed engineering packages, layouts, IP drawings, data sheets, and specifications.
• Drive safety and compliance by applying safety-by-design and supporting PSM programs (PHA/HAZOP/MOC).
• Lead cross-functional project teams and manage end-to-end lifecycle, including vendor coordination and FAT.
• Maintain accurate, controlled, and compliant engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Mentor junior engineers and uphold design rigor and safety best practices.
