Job summary

North Wind Systems LLC in Saint Paul, MN, is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to design and analyze mechanical subsystems for wind tunnel and hypersonic facilities. You will collaborate with controls, software, and aero teams to deliver integrated solutions and lead design reviews.

The role requires 10+ years in design or systems engineering, proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and FEA (ANSYS), and experience with pressure vessels, piping, and high-temperature materials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years of practical work experience in design engineering, systems engineering, or similar roles with large industrial equipment or facilities.
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above.
  • Due to security requirements, US Person status is required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical subsystems including welded steel structures, pressure vessels, piping systems, simple and complex mechanisms, rotating equipment, and process equipment.
  • Prepare drawings and bills of material for internal release or procure specifications when components are outsourced.
  • Perform FE A analysis and calculations to substantiate subsystems per requirements.
  • Document and present work in accordance with quality and customer requirements; lead design reviews.
  • Provide guidance to fabrication, procurement, assembly and installation teams; assist with vendor selection and QA.
  • Manage budgets and schedules; coordinate with Project Manager and Chief Engineer.
  • Assist in developing proposals, concepts, and cost estimates with Marketing.
