Job summary

PAE is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to direct project teams in our San Francisco or Los Angeles offices, guiding HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design through concept to construction.

You will mentor engineers, apply engineering judgment, and ensure codes and standards compliance while coordinating with other disciplines to deliver integrated systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required; PE preferred.
  • Minimum 2–4 years mechanical design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and energy modeling.
  • Ability to coordinate with other disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee preparation of deliverables, calculations, drawings and specs.
  • Provide engineering direction and mentorship to project teams.
  • Evaluate concepts and drive projects from concept to construction.
  • Manage project budgets and schedules.

The OpportunityPAE is seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Lead Mechanical Engineer in our San Francisco or Los Angeles office, to spearhead project teams and drive the technical excellence of our mechanical systems. In this pivotal role, you will transition from individual design work to high-level project oversight, providing the engineering direction and mentorship necessary to bring complex projects from initial concept through final construction. We embrace innovation, transparency, sustainability, and lifelong curiosity.What You'll DoOversee the preparation of deliverables and documents including narratives, calculations, drawings and specificationsAble to effectively communicate design options to a diverse stakeholder groupProvide engineering direction, mentorship and guidance for the project teamIndependently evaluate and apply engineering judgment, techniques, and procedures to complete a project from concepts through constructionOversee mechanical load calculationsComplete the project within the budget and scheduleKnowledge of other disciplines and direct interdisciplinary coordinationProvide updates to master specifications; provide input into standardsApply knowledge of building codes, industry standards and mechanical engineering design principalsPerform engineering calculations and equipment selectionProvide opinions of probable construction costsPerform site visits and issues reportsImplement the project quality management plan (QMP)Perform other duties as assignedWhat You BringBachelor’s Degree in Engineering for discipline workRelevant Professional Credential (i.e., PE) preferredRequires a minimum of 2-4 years Mechanical Design or 3-5 years’ related work experienceAdvanced understanding of mechanical engineering concepts, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Energy ModelingThorough understanding of project phases and their associated deliverablesDevelop the ability to assemble and run a teamStrong delegation skillsEffective written and verbal communication skillsAttention to detail and advanced organizational skillsMicrosoft Office SuiteRevit/AutoCADWhat We OfferHiring Base Salary Range: $104,000-$151,100 annualThis position is eligible for time and a half overtime payThe base salary is one component of PAE’s competitive compensation package for employees. We take into consideration a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, internal equity and geographic location in determining exact salary offered. At PAE, employees are eligible for annual compensation reviews based on performance and business needs.
