Job summary

DSJ Global is representing a reputable shipbuilding company seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for its Lafayette Region facility. You will lead and mentor a team of 5-10 engineers and designers, driving design excellence for custom vessel programs.

The role requires hands-on leadership, collaboration with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams, review and approval of drawings, and continuous improvement through standardization and KPI-driven initiatives. US citizenship is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• 7+ years in the maritime industry designing 2D/3D systems.
• Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or Rhino.
• Must be a US Citizen due to the nature of this role.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of 5-10 Mechanical Engineers and Designers, including recruiting talent, developing training programs, managing performance, and supporting professional growth.
• Partner with Engineering Leadership, Project Engineers, and cross-functional teams to establish department priorities, allocate resources, and drive successful execution of engineering initiatives.
• Oversee the review and approval of drawings, models, and designs to ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, regulations, and internal processes.
• Direct the design and integration of mechanical systems and commercial equipment for custom vessel programs, while serving as a key engineering resource for production and project teams.
• Drive continuous improvement efforts through process standardization, workload optimization, KPI development, and implementation of lessons learned across current and future vessel platforms.
