Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• ASME code familiarization, piping-stress fundamentals, OSHA or safety coursework encouraged.
• 2+ years hands-on experience in piping/fluids in industrial settings.
• Experience sizing equipment for pumps, valves, heat exchangers, etc.
• Familiarity with pressure-drop calculations and pipe-stress concepts.
• Knowledge of ASME codes and welding procedures; basic safety expectations.
• Exposure to AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CFD/FEA tools and piping-stress software.

Responsibilities

• Design, modify, and layout facility piping systems; size components like pumps, valves, heaters, and pressure vessels.
• Create, update, and redline mechanical/piping drawings, plans, and specs per code and standards.
• Perform pressure-drop, flow, and basic thermal calculations; assist CFD/FEA analyses.
• Conduct pipe-stress and support-structure checks; document results for reviews and safety analyses.
• Prepare ROMs, equipment lists, and technical evaluations to support procurement.
• Provide field support: factory acceptance tests, inspections, and commissioning under senior guidance.

Centrus Energy is seeking a driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in developing and upgrading advanced process environments. What You Will Be Doing:

• Design & System Optimization: Support the design, modification, and layout of facility piping systems, performing crucial component sizing for pumps, motors, heaters, blowers, valves, and pressure vessels.
• Technical Documentation: Create, update, and redline mechanical/piping drawings, plans, and specifications, ensuring all work complies with code and industry standards.
• Analysis & Simulation: Perform pressure-drop, flow, and basic thermal calculations; assist with steady‑state and transient analyses using CFD, FEA, or spreadsheet tools.
• Safety & Compliance: Conduct pipe‑stress and support‑structure checks, documenting results for review, and actively participate in hazard analyses, safety reviews, and quality assurance.
• Procurement & Vendor Management: Prepare ROMs, equipment lists, and technical evaluations to support procurement.
• Field Support & Commissioning: Get hands‑on with factory acceptance tests, field inspections, and system troubleshooting under the guidance of senior staff.

We’d Love to Hear from Candidates With:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) from an accredited institution - or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Relevant training such as ASME code familiarization, piping‑stress fundamentals, and OSHA or comparable safety coursework is encouraged.
• (2+) years of hands‑on experience as a mechanical designer, technician, or early‑career engineer focused on piping, fluid systems, or process equipment in industrial settings.
• Practical experience supporting equipment sizing and selection for pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and related mechanical components.
• Familiarity with pressure‑drop calculations, pipe‑stress concepts, and basic structural checks.
• Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as ASME and applicable welding procedures; familiarity with industrial safety expectations.
• Exposure to drafting and analysis tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CFD/FEA packages, and/or piping‑stress software is .
• Experience in regulated or process industries (chemical, oil & gas, water/wastewater, manufacturing, or similar) is advantageous.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Q Clearance

Pay

Estimated Starting Base Salary Range: $65,555 - $109,259. This position is Incentive eligible. Centrus considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications. While the posted range reflects the anticipated hiring range for this position, compensation above the range may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications and directly relevant experience.

This position will require a pre‑employment background check and a pre‑employment drug test.
