Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Lead Mechanical Assembler in Minneapolis, MN to guide a small team on second shift. You will assemble aluminum components for balconies, railing systems, and custom solutions, while preparing materials for the morning shift and ensuring on-time, high-quality production.

You will read blueprints, use hand and power tools, verify tolerances, and troubleshoot issues. This role emphasizes safety, reliability, and lean manufacturing practices in a dynamic setting.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience as a mechanical assembler.
  • 1–2 years leading a team of 5+.
  • Experience with hand and power tools.
  • Able to read blueprints, schematics and assembly instructions.
  • Strong reliability and punctuality.
  • Willing to work second shift with potential transition to first shift.
  • Experience with aluminum or metal assemblies preferred.

Job Title: Lead Mechanical Assembler
Job Description

This contract-to-hire role offers the opportunity to lead a small team of mechanical assemblers in a fast-paced production environment focused on architectural aluminum systems. You will assemble aluminum components and systems used in large-scale commercial and multifamily construction projects, with an emphasis on accuracy, safety, and on-time delivery. The position starts on second shift, where you will help prep materials and production supplies for the morning shift, with the potential to transition to first shift based on performance and business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble aluminum components and systems used in architectural applications such as balconies, railing systems, and custom aluminum solutions.
  • Lead and oversee a team of 5 or more assemblers on second shift, providing direction, support, and guidance to ensure production goals are met.
  • Prepare materials and production supplies for the morning shift, ensuring all components and tools are ready for efficient start-of-day operations.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools to perform mechanical assembly tasks according to specifications and blueprints.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and assembly instructions to ensure accurate and high-quality builds.
  • Measure components accurately using a tape measure and verify dimensions to meet required tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot issues during assembly, identify root causes, and make necessary adjustments to maintain product quality and workflow.
  • Assist with general labor and assembly line tasks as needed to support overall production output.
  • Apply knowledge of quality inspection processes to verify that assembled products meet established standards.
  • Support and participate in lean manufacturing practices to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
  • Collaborate with first shift teams as needed, including occasionally working on first shift to support production demands.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Demonstrate coachability, a positive attitude, and reliability in attendance and performance while setting a strong example for the team.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of experience as a mechanical assembler in a production or similar environment.
  • 1 to 2 years of leadership experience overseeing a team of 5 or more people, preferably in a production environment.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, with at least 1 year of hands‑on experience.
  • Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure; willingness and ability to pass a tape measure test.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and assembly instructions.
  • Mechanical assembly experience in a fast‑paced production setting.
  • Strong reliability, including consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Coachability and openness to feedback with a willingness to learn and improve.
  • Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills, with the ability to lead by example.
  • Capability to perform general labor and assembly line tasks as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with aluminum or metal assembly and fabrication.
  • Experience in construction‑related manufacturing environments.

Work Environment

This position is based in a production facility focused on manufacturing architectural aluminum systems for commercial and multifamily projects. The primary schedule is Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM on second shift, with the expectation of supporting first shift (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday) as needed. The second shift is being built out, and you will play a key role in leading this growing team. The work involves hands‑on mechanical assembly using hand tools, power tools, tape measures, and other standard production equipment in a fast‑paced environment. The facility emphasizes safety and organization, and you are required to wear long pants, steel‑toed boots or shoes, and a plain T‑shirt while on the production floor. The role is projected to run through late September or early October due to current production demands, with strong performers moving into long‑term, first‑shift opportunities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
