Job summary

Superior Ambulance Service, Inc. is seeking a Lead Mechanic to maintain and repair a mixed fleet of emergency vehicles in a fast-paced private fleet environment. You will diagnose and fix electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems, while performing routine maintenance to extend vehicle life and reliability.

The role requires the ability to work independently, provide own tools, and document repairs and parts usage. Knowledge of emergency lighting and sirens is welcome.

Qualifications

• Willing to work on gas and diesel engines as needed.
• Basic understanding of electrical components including switches, relays, and circuits.
• Proficient in diagnosing and repairing vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
• Conduct routine maintenance to improve vehicle functionality and longevity.
• Complete necessary documentation for repairs, parts usage and repair times.
• Perform other related maintenance work.
• Communicate needed repairs or tasks to manager.
• Maintain a safe work station.
• Other duties as assigned.

Overview

History of the Company: Superior Ambulance Service started in 1959 with one ambulance and today is the largest independent, locally owned, and operated emergency medical services provider in the Midwest. Superior employs more than 4,000 licensed EMT, Paramedics and Nurses, operating a fleet of more than 800 ambulances throughout Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Superior also provides Critical Care, helicopter, and fixed-wing emergency medical transportation.

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of all Superior Ambulance vehicles. The lead mechanic will be working in a fast-paced, high-volume private fleet. This mixed fleet includes various makes and models of vehicles.

Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Mechanic consist of, but are not limited to the following:

• Performing inspections, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.


• Conducting routine maintenance work to improve vehicle functionality and longevity.


• Completing necessary documentation associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and repair times.


• Performing other related maintenance work.


• Communicating needed repairs or tasks to manager.


• Maintain a safe work station.


• Other duties as assigned.

• Must be able to routinely lift and carry items up to 75 lbs and reach overhead.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly in verbal contact with others. Will be working indoors and outdoors and exposed to environmental elements, automotive fluids and cleaning chemicals.
