Job summary

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is seeking a Rail Fleet Maintenance Technician to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on rail vehicles and related systems in the Rail Maintenance Division in Dallas, TX. You will assist with task assignments, verify time records, and participate in safety programs.

The role requires an associate degree or technical certification in Electronics or Mechanical Technology, plus at least one year of related experience, DOT

Qualifications

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university or certification from a technical program in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field.
  • One (1) year experience in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related environment.
  • Must pass a technical test.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.
  • Must successfully complete LRV/streetcar vendor training.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License class C, and be able to obtain a Texas class A within 90 days of employment; no DWI in the last 60 months, not more than one DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two moving violations in last 36 months.
  • Applicants must pass and maintain a DOT medical exam including pre-employment drug test and random testing as a condition of continued employment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and general PC usage.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Supervisor with work task assignments.
  • Verify daily time records.
  • Assist with mechanic training.
  • Performs Fill-In Supervisor duties as requested by Management or designee.
  • Perform technician level diagnosis of rail car malfunctions, determine the cause, and make necessary repairs to rail car systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs, remove and replace malfunctioning components.
  • Change tires, fuels, and/or cleans vehicles as required.
  • Make service calls as required; operate DART vehicles if necessary.
  • Promote established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $38.81 - $38.81 Pay Per Hour: $38.81 Supervisory Organization: Mgr Rail Fleet Maintenance Country: United States of America Address: 9717 Abernathy City: Dallas, TX 75220 FLSA: Non - Exempt Professionals: 07 - Skilled Craft (EEO-4-United States of America), 7B - Mechanics (EEO-SubCategory) General Summary: Responsible for assigned work of preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of rail vehicles, systems, and components for the Dallas Area Rapid Transits (DART) Rail Maintenance Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist Supervisor with work task assignments;
  • verify daily time records;
  • assist with mechanic training.
  • Performs Fill-In Supervisor duties as requested by the Management team or designee.
  • Perform technician level diagnosis of rail car vehicle malfunctions, determine the cause, and make necessary repairs to rail car systems, including propulsion, traction motors, brakes, air compressors, couplers, doors, HVAC, auxiliary power, and all other related electromechanical components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs, remove and replace malfunctioning components of vehicles.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of revenue vehicles as scheduled.
  • Change tires, fuels, and/or cleans vehicles as required.
  • Make service calls as required; operate DART vehicles if necessary.
  • Promote established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university or certification from a technical program in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field.
  • One (1) year experience in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related environment.
  • Must pass a technical test.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position.
  • Must successfully complete LRV/streetcar vendor training.
  • Must have a valid Drivers License class C, and be able to obtain a Texas class A within 90 days of employment; no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Applicants/employees must pass and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination including pre-employment drug test and must submit to Federal Transportation Administration-required random drug/alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment.
  • Proficiency with personal computer (PC), software applications to include MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Must work in a safe manner and constant state of alertness.
  • Ability to promote a positive and inclusive work culture.
  • Ability to have the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
  • Ability to make decisions in the absence of guidance from others, and to plan and carry out work assignments in situations where the procedures have been established.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.

  • Must also be able to read and comprehend a variety of work related/required technical manuals, safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to find solutions to mechanical and technical problems.
  • Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability.
  • May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
  • Ability to be mobile and occasionally 70% - 80% of the work time.
  • Lift objects weighing up to seventy (70) pounds such as tools, equipment and parts.
  • Must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces.
  • Ability to use standard devices weighing up to 50lbs such as hand tools, portable shop test equipment for testing and other required equipment in order to perform your job functions.

May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
