Job summary

Georgia Department of Transportation seeks a Mechanic 2 to maintain, diagnose, inspect and repair gasoline and diesel engines, vehicles and other motorized equipment. The role requires CDL and 2+ years of related experience, with supervision duties possible.

The position involves on-call work, safety-conscious repair routines, and coordination with other repair staff to ensure timely service of GDOT vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 18 months of experience.
• Commercial Driver’s License required.
• Two years’ experience in repair of gasoline/diesel engines and vehicles.
• Two years’ experience repairing cars, light duty trucks and passenger vans.
• Ability to supervise lower level mechanics.
• Ability to read and follow shop manuals.
• Physically lift heavy equipment and perform repetitive tasks.
• This position is on-call 24/7.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, diagnose, inspects and repair gasoline and/or diesel engines, vehicles and equipment.
• Test and inspect vehicles for proper and safe operation after repairs.
• May assign work to other repair personnel and supervise their repair activities.
• May dispatch tractor-trailer operators.
