CSS is seeking a Lead Mechanic - Data Center to manage mechanical systems and mission-critical equipment in a high-performance data center. You will oversee HVAC, plumbing, and related infrastructure, supervise maintenance schedules, and lead field activities to ensure uptime.

The role requires 3+ years as a Mechanical Lead, strong leadership and scheduling skills, and expertise in building automation systems.

Qualifications

  • Requires Technical Degree or specialized training in Mechanical or HVAC systems.
  • Minimum 3+ years as Mechanical Lead in supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of building controls, fire systems, security systems.
  • Experience with building automation systems.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with on-site field coordination, supervision, and project management for data center operations.
  • Support operation and maintenance of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.
  • Serve as onsite SME for Mechanical/HVAC systems including troubleshooting.
  • Manage preventative and emergency maintenance programs and oversee providers.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks (monthly/quarterly/annually).
  • Perform/oversee PM tasks including generator tests and UPS/ATS/STS tests.
  • Oversee vendors/subcontractors to ensure proper installation and service delivery.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and coordinate resolution to maintain uptime.
  • Monitor system performance and report discrepancies to operations and clients.
  • Contribute to Change Control Programs, SOPs, and safety procedures.
  • Support inventory management and life-cycle replacement planning.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support as required.

Job description

As the Lead Mechanic - Data Center, you will support the day-to-day management of mechanical systems and mission-critical equipment within a high-performance data center environment. You will take the lead on coordinating field activities, managing HVAC and plumbing systems, and ensure all mechanical equipment is operating at peak performance. You will supervise maintenance schedules, troubleshoot complex issues, and serve as the go-to expert for mechanical systems on site. You will oversee vendors, coordinate emergency response efforts, and contribute to long-term planning initiatives focused on uptime, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with on- site field coordination, supervision, and project management support for data center operations, with emphasis on mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Support operation and maintenance of mission critical systems and integrated facility infrastructure, including HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.
  • Serve as onsite subject matter expert for mechanical/HVAC systems, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and technical support.
  • Manage and support preventative and emergency maintenance programs, including scheduling, execution, inspections, and oversight of maintenance providers.
  • Perform and oversee routine inspections and maintenance activities, including required monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance tasks.
  • Self- perform mechanical/HVAC preventative maintenance activities, including filter changes, generator operating tests, and UPS/ATS/STS transfer tests and operation.
  • Oversee vendors and subcontractors to ensure proper installation of equipment and delivery of maintenance services in accordance with operational standards.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and facility emergencies, coordinating and overseeing resolution to maintain uptime and reliability.
  • Monitor system performance, report discrepancies and trends to operations teams and clients, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to development and maintenance of operational standards, including Change Control Programs, MOPs, SOPs, ERPs, safety procedures, and work rules.
  • Support inventory management, spare parts planning, and life cycle replacement strategies for critical systems.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • Licenses/Certificates/Designations: Technical Degree or specialized experience/training in Mechanical or HVAC system
  • 3+ years of experience as a Mechanical Lead in a supervisory role or with growing responsibilities over time
  • Knowledge of construction planning, mechanical or electrical systems necessary, building controls, fire systems, and security systems
  • Knowledge of building automation systems
  • Must be technically proficient in planning and scheduling, and exhibit excellent organizational skills
  • Must possess strong communication skills, the ability to lead coordination meetings and actively facilitate progress in order to achieve scheduled goals
  • Must have people skills, good judgment, and flexibility
  • Able to work cooperatively with internal administration groups, and effectively negotiate with customers and contractors to reach mutually acceptable terms and conditions
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word
  • Ability to travel 0% - 25%
Working Environment

Data Center – The data center work environment is a highly secure, physically demanding, and structured operation, characterized by its loud, controlled temperature conditions and 24/7/365 uptime. The environment demands a high attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to manage and troubleshoot critical equipment during regular operation and in emergency situations. Lifting up to 50 lbs, regular bending, stooping, climbing and long periods of walking/standing will be required.
