Job description

What you will do:

The Lead Mechanic works in the TCCA Truck Shop with the repair and maintenance of company owned vehicles and heavy duty class 8 tractors/trailers. The Mechanic performs repairs and preventive maintenance inspections (PMI’s), lube, oil, and filter changes on all company owned rolling stock. Will assist with inventory control by ordering and tracking parts/materials in truck shop. Will document all work performed along with maintaining up to date reports on all equipment. Will also be responsible for the housekeeping of the truck wash bay, truck shop, fuel island, and truck scales. The Mechanic will also be responsible for but not limited to the cleaning, washing, sanitizing and detailing of all rolling stock equipment (i.e. trucks, trailers, autos, etc.). The purpose of the Mechanic is to assist in keeping the equipment and transportation areas for TCCA to its highest level of safety, dependability and appearance.

Here’s a day in the life:
  1. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of their shift including planning, assigning, and directing work. Carries (lead) responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Refers discipline issues, rewarding employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems to the Logistics Supervisor/Manager.
  2. Performs all Mechanic duties including inspections, repairs, and routine preventive maintenance: Lube, oil, and filter changes, tire mounting, repairs and adjustments to rolling stock.
  3. Diagnoses, rebuilds and repairs vehicles, equipment, and rolling company stock.
  4. Maintain cleanliness of the truck shop, wash bay, truck scale, and fuel island.
  5. Documentation of all work performed along with tracking reports of equipment wash cycles. Prepares and maintains all Preventative Maintenance /Work Order records and reports.
  6. Perform on-road test drives with trucks/vehicles as needed, up to and including to/from Portland.
  7. Oversee inventory tracking and stocking of all materials and parts used in truck shop.
  8. Assist by using company vehicles to pick up parts and supplies locally and out of town as needed.
  9. Uses a variety of hand, power tools, welders, cutting torches, and material handling equipment safely.
  10. Moving equipment about on TCCA property, Class 8 trucks and semi-trailers, yard hostler, forklifts, man lifts, pickups, and autos.
  11. Cleaning, washing, sanitizing, and detailing of interior and exterior of all rolling stock. Rust removal and repainting of equipment.
  12. Performs service work for other outside parties as needed.
  13. Performs all other duties assigned.
  14. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
  15. Ability to communicate effectively.
  16. Must be computer literate with basic knowledge and understanding of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and be able to enter information into a database.
  17. Must be a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.
  18. Class A CDL is required. Other endorsements, certifications and licenses maybe required as determined by the Logistics Supervisor/Manager. A Driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  1. High School diploma or G.E.D is required.
  2. Technical training in Heavy equipment diesel mechanics, metal fabrication, and welding experience required.
Physical requirements:
  1. Sitting.
  2. Standing and/or walking.
  3. Lifting up to 55lbs.
  4. Vision for machine or computer operations.
  5. Hearing.
Working conditions:

Work is typically in a truck shop environment. Can include working outside in all weather conditions, working in confined spaces and in poorly lighted areas, encountering truck and forklift traffic. Requires standing majority of shift, walking on uneven, wet surfaces, stooping, bending and crouching and climbing ladders. Duties may include lifting up to 55 pounds and maneuvering heavy equipment and/or parts. Standing 50%, Walking 20%, Lifting 15%, and Climbing 15%.
