Position Overview: The Lead Mechanic is responsible for maintenance and repair of the school bus fleet to ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Performing and overseeing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel and gasoline-powered school buses.
  2. Addressing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues promptly.
  3. Maintaining accurate maintenance records.
  4. Providing guidance, training, and support to team members.
  5. Monitoring team performance and adherence to policies and schedules.
  6. Ensuring compliance with safety regulations (DOT, OSHA).
  7. Conducting fleet and facility inspections for safety hazards.
  8. Staying updated on regulatory changes and implementing adjustments.
  9. Monitoring inventory levels and maintaining tools and equipment.
  10. Recommending purchase of tools or equipment.
  11. Preparing reports on maintenance activities and fleet performance.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in diesel and automotive repairs, including diagnostics and electrical work.
  • Lead responsibilities experience preferred.
  • ASE Certification (School Bus, Diesel Engines) preferred.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with DOT and OSHA regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in maintenance management software and Microsoft Office.
  • Current CDL with P and S endorsements; training available if needed.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in various physical positions, outdoor conditions, and operate tools safely.
