Job summary

Responsibilities

• Know all equipment on the can lines to set up, adjust, repair, operate, and maintain within a proficient time frame.
• Be proficient in adjustment and repair of line support equipment such as tape machines, strappers, stretch wrappers, conveyors, labelers, etc.
• Check quality of units produced and take remedial action for quality problems.
• Recommend repairs or improvements to equipment to the Maintenance Manager.
• Work with Machine Shop personnel on major breakdowns and overhauls.
• Train operators and apprentices; help direct daily operation of the department.
• Complete QC forms and work accurately within the CSI system.
• Document daily work and production process adjustments.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
• Other duties as assigned.

Summary

The Lead Mechanic repairs and maintains production machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machines and equipment. Must be the site leader in living and driving the Company Core Values and High-Performance Work Culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Know all equipment on the can lines to set up, adjust, repair, operate, and maintain within a proficient time frame.
• Be proficient in adjustment and repair of all line support equipment such as tape machines, strappers, stretch wrappers, conveyors, labelers, etc.
• Check quality of units being produced and take remedial action to correct any quality problems.
• Recommend necessary repairs or improvements to equipment to the Maintenance Manager.
• Work with Machine Shop personnel on major breakdowns and overhauls.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED; training with completion of journeyman training for die setter/press mechanic as required by the company or similar training elsewhere. Minimum 5+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language, Mathematical and Reasoning Skills

Language: Ability to read in English, write routine reports, and speak effectively before groups of employees.

Mathematical: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and compute percentages.

Reasoning: Apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, and diagram form and solve standardized problems.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Journeyman training completion; CPR and basic first aid certification; fully trained in Lockout and Tagout requirements.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, use hand/fingers, reach, climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl regularly. Frequently lift/handle up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, occasional electrical shock; noise level usually loud.
