Job summary

ND Paper is seeking a Lead Material Handler at our Sturtevant, WI packaging plant. You will direct the material handling crew across shifts, prioritize loads, coordinate takeoffs and bays, and ensure timely load-out to keep lines running smoothly.

You will train handlers, act as the first escalation for material flow issues, and uphold safety, accuracy, and paperwork standards in collaboration with the Shipping Supervisor and plant leadership.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1+ years of experience as a Material Handler or equivalent forklift/clamp truck role required; experience in a corrugated, packaging, or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Prior experience informally leading, training, or mentoring coworkers preferred.
• Valid forklift certification required (or ability to obtain promptly upon hire).
• Basic math skills for counting, verifying loads, and reading pick tickets/BOLs.
• Ability to work overtime and flexible hours, including weekends, as production needs require.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality, and sets that standard for the crew - the line depends on this position being staffed and ready every shift.

Responsibilities

• Direct the material handling crew across shifts to keep lines running smoothly.
• Assign and rotate handlers across takeoffs, bays, and unload/load-out tasks.
• Build and complete loads accurately and on schedule; assist with loading/unloading when needed.
• Direct finished product staging and manage bay space to prevent congestion.
• Prioritize outbound loads against ship schedule to ensure timely truck departures.
• Oversee unloading of incoming trailers and ensure proper staging of material.
• Monitor wastepaper, trim, and scrap movement to designated areas.
• Elevate damage or mis-counts to the Shift Supervisor for resolution.
