Job summary

Mercury Marine, headquartered in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, seeks a Quality Engineer to support and facilitate the quality system in machining. You will supervise a team of Quality Technicians and collaborate with plant departments to improve quality performance and reduce variation.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Engineering, 3+ years of manufacturing/quality engineering, and ISO 9001:2015 knowledge. Prior aluminum machining experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years as Manufacturing or Quality Engineer.
  • PPAP and Process FMEA experience.
  • GD&T knowledge; read blueprints and tolerances.
  • Experience with SPC, auditing and ISO 9001:2015.
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and ensure quality activities in manufacturing and support functions to meet objectives.
  • Deliver quality support to production with emphasis on engine machining.
  • Perform root cause analysis and drive defect reduction and rework.
  • Apply Six Sigma DMAIC to reduce variability and waste.
  • Collect and analyze quality data; drive corrective actions and CAPA.
  • Coordinate inspections and interface with internal audit for ISO adherence.
  • Lead Machining Quality Technicians and support rework/holds.

Position Overview

As part of the talented Quality team, you will be responsible for support and facilitation of the quality system in the machining process to assure ongoing improvements in quality performance and customer satisfaction. This person will supervise and direct a team of Quality Technicians and work closely with the plant departments to ensure continuity in company quality objectives, eliminating process waste and reducing variation. The Quality Engineer will work with employee teams and managers while exhibiting a professional and cooperative attitude. Experience with machining processes for aluminum materials is a plus.

Essential Functions
  • Promote and ensure quality activities in manufacturing and support functions to assure that objectives are met
  • Deliver quality support to production with an emphasis on engine machining
  • Execute root cause analysis, consistently drive to reduce defects & lead product rework
  • Improve processes to reduce common cause variability and eliminate special cause by following Problem Solving techniques such as Six Sigma (DMAIC)
  • Ensure appropriate collection of quality data, analyze the data for trends, identify corrective action opportunities, and drive corrective action activities
  • Coordinate part inspections as required and work with internal audit teams to ensure ISO procedures are being adhered to
  • Provide an immediate communication bridge to production supervisors on status and resolution of quality issues that arise in machining as a top priority
  • Supervise and direct Machining Quality Technicians
  • Coordinate, keep records and support rework and product holds
  • Interface with assembly and/or sister plants
  • Perform special assignments as required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or another related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Manufacturing or Quality Engineer
  • Knowledge of PPAP and Process FMEA activity for both current and new product launches
  • Familiarity with GD&T and ability to read & understand blueprints, tolerances & symbols
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control, auditing & ISO 9001:2015 Quality Systems
  • Ability to lead, teach and motivate a team
  • Organizational skills necessary to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio. Statistical software
  • Ability to get along with diverse personalities while remaining tactful, professional, and flexible
  • Good written and oral communication to communicate with all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Related work experience in a marine, automotive, or engine manufacturing plant is preferred
  • Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Associate with ASQ, desired
  • Lean Six Sigma certification, strongly preferred

The hiring range for this position is $86,500 - $126,800 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary based on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
