Job summary

Mercury Marine, a Brunswick brand in Fond du Lac, WI, seeks a Supplier Quality Engineer to improve supplier performance and ensure quality across the global supply base. You will collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing, engineering, procurement, and quality teams to support production operations and new product launches.

The ideal candidate has strong APQP/PPAP experience, problem-solving skills, and the ability to drive corrective actions using structured methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Actions, and Quality Systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a collaborative quality resource for suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support timely resolution of supplier-related quality issues that impact production, delivery, or customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate containment, inspection, sorting, and remediation activities for suspect material.
  • Communicate quality concerns, risks, corrective actions, and status updates to suppliers and internal teams.
  • Support manufacturing operations by helping maintain production continuity during supplier-related quality events.
  • Lead APQP activities to ensure supplier readiness for new product introductions.
  • Review and approve PPAP submissions, including dimensional reports, PFMEAs, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, capability studies, and material certifications.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Procurement teams to identify and mitigate supplier risks during product development.
  • Support supplier readiness reviews and production launch activities.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Maintain supplier quality records, reporting, and performance metrics.
  • Support management of nonconforming material and MRB activities.
  • Analyze supplier performance data and provide recommendations to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Overview

As part of the Mercury Marine Supplier Quality team, the Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, supporting, and improving supplier performance to ensure the consistent delivery of quality products that meet customer, engineering, and manufacturing requirements.
This role partners closely with suppliers, manufacturing, engineering, procurement, and quality teams to support production operations, drive corrective actions, manage supplier quality performance, and ensure successful new product launches.
The ideal candidate enjoys solving manufacturing and quality challenges, working directly with suppliers, supporting APQP and PPAP activities, and using data to identify risks and improvement opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
Supplier Quality & Production Support
  • Serve as a collaborative quality resource for suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support timely resolution of supplier-related quality issues that impact production, delivery, or customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate containment, inspection, sorting, and remediation activities for suspect material.
  • Communicate quality concerns, risks, corrective actions, and status updates to suppliers and internal teams.
  • Support manufacturing operations by helping maintain production continuity during supplier-related quality events.
Corrective Action & Problem Solving
  • Evaluate supplier root cause analysis and corrective action plans to ensure they address both immediate and systemic causes.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, A3, 5-Why, and Fishbone analysis.
  • Verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions to reduce recurrence.
Supplier Development
  • Monitor supplier quality performance through PPM, defect trends, audit findings, and other key performance indicators.
  • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to evaluate capability, quality systems, and process controls.
  • Work directly with suppliers to improve quality, delivery, and process performance.
  • Develop and support supplier improvement plans to address identified risks and performance gaps.
  • Support risk-based supplier evaluation and development activities.
New Product Launch Support
  • Lead APQP activities to ensure supplier readiness for new product introductions.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards and business processes.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Actions, and Quality Systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in marine, automotive, powersports, aerospace, heavy equipment, industrial manufacturing, or engine component manufacturing.
  • Experience conducting supplier audits and supplier development activities.
  • Knowledge of SPC, DOE, capability analysis, and statistical methods.
  • Experience with aluminum casting, machining, forging, molding, or assembly processes.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or similar certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
Travel
  • This position requires occasional day and overnight travel to supplier locations, manufacturing facilities, and company locations, up to 30%.

The hiring range for this position is $73,600 to $106,200 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary based on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
