Job Description Summary
The Lead Manufacturing Engineer role is within Dayton Cores and Castings NPI engineering team. As the Lead Manufacturing Engineer - Ceramic Mixing Process Owner, you will be responsible for process engineering and development of ceramic slurry mixing and cleaning. You will lead engineering experiments/analysis, parameter/tolerance establishment, process setup, and standard documentation to drive improved process control, and ultimately final product yield improvement. You will collaborate very closely with Process and Product Owners within the Dayton Cores and Castings, Materials engineering teams, as well as business leaders to drive operational and quality improvements.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Daily monitoring and control of slurry mixing and cleaning processes through material testing planning/analysis and process set-up verification strategies.
- Utilize process data and SPC control to visualize process health and trends so that potential problems may be addressed proactively.
- Develop system (standard processes and lead-times) to ensure that ceramic slurry material is approved prior to point of use in facing manufacturing process.
- Lead engineering experiments (DOE) to evaluate influence and interactions of process variables/parameters to optimize process set-up for yield improvement of final product.
- Lead development of Process Control Plan in area of responsibility – ensuring clearly understood relationships between process inputs, process outputs, and product characteristics.
- Ceramic raw material inventory management, including development of standard lead-times/inventories, visual management using Lean tools, and order communication with vendors.
- Clearly document process standards into Manufacturing Operation Sheets, including parameters/tolerances, work steps, and key points for quality.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners to identify root causes to yield challenges and support improvements with expertise in your responsible area.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of process engineering experience).
- Minimum of 3 years of product, process, and/or quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
Desired Characteristics:
- Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering/ Technology, or Aerospace Engineering/ Technology from an accredited university or college.
- At least 5 years product/process/quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading process development as a Process Owner.
- Expertise in engineering ceramic materials, including raw materials, ceramic properties, formulation development and control, and testing methods.
- Experience using statistical tools/concepts to analyze data (e.g. Minitab, Cpk, VBA, ANOVA, Excel) to lead data-driven problem solving and true root cause identification.
- Experience independently planning, executing, and analyzing engineering design of experiments.
- Experience partnering with small teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholder teams to achieve consensus on direction.
