Lead Mammography Technologist #Full Time

The 61st Street Service Corporation provides administrative and clinical support staff for ColumbiaDoctors. This position will support ColumbiaDoctors, one of the largest multi-specialty practices in the Northeast. ColumbiaDoctors’ practices comprise an experienced group of more than 2,800 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurses, offering more than 240 specialties and subspecialties.

Job Summary:

The Lead Mammography Technologist is an experienced professional who leads and coordinates the operational and administrative functions of Mammography services. In this role, the incumbent will lead a collaborative team of technologists by directing staff activities and overseeing quality assurance and control activities. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of mammography and bone density studies as requested by referring physician and consistent with the facility’s guidelines, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the imaging area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
  • Perform mammography and bone density studies and general radiological procedures:
    • Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist’s discretion, the referring physician.
    • Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging.
    • Observe patient while in the mammography area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
    • Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
    • Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
    • Assist radiologist with stereotactic core biopsies, setting up patient, ensuring all documentation pre- and post-procedure is complete.
  • Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Role-Specific Duties:

  • Train, assign, and delegate work to all technologists as necessary.
  • Review staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage on a daily basis.
  • Assign or coordinate mammography technologist coverage/schedule to ensure that coverage is maintained, especially during heavy demand.
  • Support Practice Manager on recruitment, onboarding, performance appraisals, and disciplinary activities for mammography technologists.
  • Manage day-to-day QC activities; delegate process as appropriate for the assigned and/or satellite sites.
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as assigned by the Practice Manager.
  • Responsible for supporting or leading annual MQSA Inspection, and ensuring QC and regulatory manuals are current.
  • Ensure that all mammography and breast ultrasound reports are completed, including follow-ups and biopsies.
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting ACR accreditation materials for Mammography and Stereotactic Biopsy.
  • Work with vendors, facilities, IT, and physics to evaluate new equipment, installation, and staff training to ensure equipment is ready for patient care.

Job Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalency.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, including 1-year minimum in a senior or lead technologist role; exposure to a wide range of mammography and bone density studies required.
  • NYS License, ARRT and mammography certified.
  • Current BLS required.
  • Demonstrated leadership proficiency in a team environment, including communication, training/knowledge-sharing, coordination, delegation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in continuous improvement or quality initiatives.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to teach these skills to other technologists.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
  • Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
  • Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.
  • Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule including weekends).

Hourly Rate Ranges: $58.27 - $71.14

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
