Job summary

RTX Collins Aerospace seeks a Lead Maintenance Technician to support 3rd shift (11:00pm–7:30am ET) in Wilson, NC. You will provide technical leadership, prioritize work, mentor technicians, and troubleshoot complex equipment to improve uptime and reliability across maintenance, production, and site leadership.

The role emphasizes safety, LOTO compliance, and collaboration with Production and Manufacturing Engineering to build a high-performing team and robust PM programs in a critical aerospace

Qualifications

  • AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience serving as a lead, senior technician or equivalent technical leadership capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior maintenance presence on the assigned shift, providing technical leadership and support to the maintenance team with advanced troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis of complex equipment issues.
  • Prioritize and assign maintenance work based on production needs, equipment criticality, and urgency.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and troubleshooting activities to minimize equipment downtime and production disruptions.
  • Identify equipment reliability concerns and recurring failures and elevate issues requiring additional technical or management support.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the onboarding, training, and development of maintenance technicians to strengthen technical capabilities and improve overall team effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with lockout/tagout (LOTO), safety procedures, and safe work practices during all maintenance activities.
  • Communicate equipment status, major issues, downtime, and shift activities to maintenance and site management.
  • Collaborate with Production and Manufacturing Engineering to resolve equipment issues and improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance (PM) tasks are completed on schedule and meet required quality standards.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Maintenance Technician to support 3rd shift from the hours of 11:00pm-7:30am ET to provide leadership for safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance support by prioritizing work, troubleshooting complex equipment issues, and mentoring technicians. Serving as the primary maintenance contact during off-shifts, this role improves response time, technician capability, equipment reliability, and alignment between maintenance, production, and site leadership.

What You Will Do:

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience
  • Industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience serving as a lead, senior technician or equivalent technical leadership capacity.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Ability to work 3rd shift
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment documentation.
  • Formal technical training or certifications in electrical, mechanical, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, motor controls, sensors, VFDs, or other automated equipment.
  • Experience with CMMS/SAP maintenance systems and preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, electrical safety, LOTO, and other industrial safety requirements.

The salary range for this role is 53,100 USD - 100,900 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
