Job summary

Petro Star Inc. in Valdez, AK is seeking a Terminal Lead Maintenance Tech to supervise terminal mechanical operations and lead maintenance of all equipment at North Pacific Fuel and Valdez Terminal.

The role requires diagnosing, repairing, and preventive maintenance, plus record-keeping and inventory management. Alaska driver's license, TWIC, and strong safety leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years fuels terminal maintenance experience.
  • Experience with trucks, heavy equipment and terminal operations.
  • Alaska driver's license required; TWIC within 30 days of hire.
  • MTSA compliance and safety protocols must be understood.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment.
  • Repair vehicle deficiencies and service components as needed.
  • Maintain records and log maintenance data in the company system.
  • Supervise maintenance tasks and ensure safe operating practices.
  • Develop and implement maintenance plans for terminal equipment.

Job description

Terminal Lead Maintenance Tech is an hourly position on a 5/8's work schedule and reports directly to the Terminal Manager. The Lead Maintenance Tech is responsible for terminal mechanical operations, and the mechanical operations at the North Pacific Fuel terminal. Will be responsible for the maintenance of all North Pacific Fuel and Valdez Petroleum Terminal equipment located in Valdez. This will include fuel trucks, loaders, boom truck, vacuum truck, Genie lift, flatbed trucks, light duty pickups, all fuel transfer and oil spill equipment, and mechanical security gates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Perform diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures on trucks and equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment
  • Determine course of action for repair of damaged parts and systems
  • Repair vehicle deficiencies by removing and repairing malfunctioning components such as changing brakes, adjusting steering systems, replace worn parts and change truck fluids
  • Ensure that all equipment complies with federal and state vehicle requirements
  • Maintain records for all vehicles and equipment; integrate record data into the company maintenance program
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns
  • Contain costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options
  • Performs maintenance and inspections throughout terminal.
  • Maintain appropriate inventories of parts and supplies m for all equipment
  • Complete projects and repairs and/or coordinate tasks in a timely manner to minimize overall workflow disruption.
  • Adheres to established procedures and good operating/maintenance procedures.
  • Consistently demonstrates a high degree of knowledge in the “nuts and bolts” required to operate and maintain the facility.
  • Models professionalism providing leadership, guidance and expects professionalism from the crew.
  • Assists with developing organizational capability within Operations’ crews to include maintenance of operating systems and integration of Process Safety Management within the daily tasks.
  • Supervises all maintenance tasks and ensures jobs and tasks are conducted within established safe operating practices.
  • Demonstrate a culture of high HSE awareness, by ensuring permits to work compliance and appropriate job safety analysis.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing maintenance plans
  • Ensures product quality control is maintained.
  • Establish a maintenance and inspection schedule for facility equipment and vehicles
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment Perform repair and maintenance of lube carts and pumps
  • Participate in all required training and drills
  • Able to work independently
  • Must be able to use and wear other PPE that may be required on the job.
  • Participate in emergency oil spill response situations

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required

  • Preferred a minimum of five (5) years’ fuels terminal or equipment maintenance experience.
  • Practical experience in construction, Terminal operations, control systems, instrumentation, maintenance, and safety.
  • A valid driving license is required; an Alaska driver's license must be obtained if relocating from outside Alaska.
  • Experience working in and around light and heavy-duty trucks and some heavy equipment.
  • Demonstrated Word and Excel skills

EDUCATION
Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Continuing education and/or experience in management, and safety. Must apply for a TWIC® card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) within 30 days from date of hire at your own personal expense.
  • It is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002(MTSA) that you maintain a valid TWIC card in order to work at this facility. You must keep your TWIC card current and valid as a condition of employment
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.

Preferred

  • Technical degree, i.e., chemical, petroleum, electrical or mechanical
