The City of New York seeks a seasoned Mainframe Systems Manager to lead the mainframe systems team, guide workload distribution, and provide technical leadership for IBM mainframe environments. You will drive modernization initiatives, coordinate upgrades, and partner with the data center to ensure reliable, secure operations.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in mainframe leadership, deep knowledge of z/OS, CICS, IMS, and a track record of optimizing performance and automation.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience managing a mainframe team in a large enterprise.
• Strong knowledge of z/OS, CICS, D82, IMS.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage performance.
• Ability to work after hours and provide 24/7 availability when needed.
• Experience with enterprise monitoring tools and disaster recovery planning.
• Knowledge of mainframe security frameworks and policies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the mainframe systems team.
• Manage workload distribution, scheduling, and performance.
• Plan and coordinate upgrades for mainframe hardware and subsystems.
• Research, evaluate, and implement modernization strategies.
• Oversee incident response, change management, and project intake.
• Collaborate with the data center and other departments.
• Provide accurate status updates and mentor staff in new tech.
