Position Overview
We are seeking a Machine Operator Lead to oversee machine operations and ensure efficient, high-quality production. Machine Operators receive training in various facility areas based on business needs, employee aptitude, and interests.
Shift: 2nd Shift 4:00 PM - 2:30 AM
Key Responsibilities
- Take pride in your work, demonstrate attention to detail, and maintain a strong commitment to safety.
- Assign work orders to maintenance employees and track work schedules.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all safety, quality, and productivity standards are met.
- Band bundles of tubes and transport them to cutting processes or storage areas.
- Follow rolling schedules to ensure tubes meet size, gauge, length, and material specifications.
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and transfer systems to move materials.
- Perform quality assurance inspections, removing burrs and ensuring clean surfaces inside and outside of tubes.
- Identify and reject non-conforming products (e.g., scratches, weld splits, end-cut defects).
- Recognize steel shapes, sizes, and mill tolerances.
- Prepare, stack, and assemble bundles properly to prevent product damage.
- Repack and band tubing according to customer requirements.
- Assist mill operators with setups and supply tube mill machinery with steel coils.
- Unload and receive incoming materials from suppliers.
- Move materials into inventory storage, staging, and work areas.
- Follow work instructions to produce tubing according to customer specifications.
Required Skills & Experience
- Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations, including fractions and decimals.
- Understanding and ability to follow semi-complex verbal and written instructions.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with vendors, co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
- Ability to work independently while managing workload priorities.
- Willingness to learn and use measuring devices for tubing inspections.
- Dependable and able to work assigned shifts consistently.
- Legible handwriting for documentation and reporting.
- Ability to wear all required PPE and comply with safety policies.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Work in a warehouse/plant setting where conditions may be heated, unheated, dusty, and noisy.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for up to 8 hours per shift.
- Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and steel materials.
