Key Areas of Responsibility
The Lead Locksmith Technician/Access Control Technician position is an integral part of FlyLock Security Solutions - Herndon and is key to the growth of the company. All Lead Locksmiths must have the ability to work well in a high‑paced working environment. The individual must work well as part of the team and independently from the FlyLock owner. The Lead Locksmith position is a hands‑on technical position geared toward an individual who has a technical mindset. Ideal candidates will have locksmithing knowledge and demonstrate the ability to learn new technical methods and techniques.
Responsibilities
- Perform emergency work orders for commercial clients only.
- Install, repair, and maintain commercial and residential hardware.
- Safe and card access experience is a huge plus.
- Install, repair, and maintain access control hardware.
- Modify hardware for locks.
- Create and maintain master key systems.
- Perform residential and commercial lock re‑keying and pinning of locks.
- Interpret a variety of instructions in written, diagram, or schedule form.
- Troubleshoot with a variety of variables in situations.
- Clean, maintain, adjust, calibrate, and service equipment used.
- Read operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Write simple correspondence.
- Effectively present information to customers and commercial clients.
- Perform basic math operations in all units of measure.
- Cut keys by code.
- Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in technical hands‑on field experience in the security solutions, access control, door hardware, and other skilled trades.
- Inspect, install, and service all basic and complex commercial and residential access and video systems.
- Perform advanced, complex troubleshooting and repair functions for commercial and residential access and video systems such as programming; cleaning detectors; testing controls and peripheral devices; mounting, replacing, and testing equipment according to specifications; running cable, etc.
- Instruct customers in access and video systems operation by recommending ways to use additional features and capabilities of system installations.
Operations Support
- Receive verbal instructions from management or clients/customers.
- Perform small projects as directed by management.
- Complete and submit paperwork accurately and on time.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Minimum of 2 years experience in technical hands‑on field experience in locksmithing, access control, door hardware, and other skilled trades.
- Good relationship‑building skills with a diverse population including all customers’ partners, technicians, and all other company employees.
- Good verbal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple functions at the same time.
- Good organizational skills.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
- Capable of working effectively as part of a team.
- Able to work safely on ladders.
- Ability to drive in compliance with company vehicle policy.
- Provide a high level of timely and accurate customer service.
- Communicate effectively with the client to determine what services are needed.
- Respond to general inquiries from customers/clients.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to fluently understand, speak, and write English.
- Push, pull, and lift at least 50 lbs.
- Kneel, crouch, and stoop.
- Reach above and below the shoulders.
- Use hands and fingers to grasp, twist, and pull.
- Climb a ladder and work above ground.
- Withstand external weather conditions year‑round.
