Job summary

Covington & Burling LLP in San Francisco seeks an experienced, career-track litigation paralegal to serve as lead on large, complex matters and mentor junior paralegals. The role covers case management, discovery, trial logistics, and coordination with courts, agencies, and vendors.

Strong organizational and communication skills required; overtime and travel as needed. Hybrid work arrangement with a California Paralegal Supervisor reporting line.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' work experience as a litigation paralegal in an AmLaw 100 firm or specialized litigation practice.
• Experience with all stages of litigation including intake, discovery, and trial.
• Experience coordinating trial/arbitration logistics, including setting up remote office space and coordinating with vendors.
• Experience developing and maintaining processes to collect, store, and maintain paper and electronic case files.
• Strong sense of accountability and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; professional demeanor.
• Proficiency with cite-checking, Bluebook and CA Style Manual rules.
• Must be available for overtime work and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform all elements of litigation case management, including file management, case calendaring, discovery, and trial activities.
• Utilize existing systems and procedures and/or establish new procedures to facilitate organization and retrieval of documents by attorneys on the case team.
• Coordinate and oversee the tasks of junior paralegals and other support staff on large matters from discovery through trial/arbitration.
• Liaise between case team attorneys and support staff to ensure paralegal services meet expectations.
• Interact with courts, government agencies, expert witnesses, and vendors to gather information or coordinate activities.
• Draft, review, and analyze routine legal documents; conduct legal research under attorney supervision.
• Provide guidance and training to junior paralegals on procedures and best practices.
• Create and maintain effective working relationships; maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information.
• Perform other duties as requested by Firm management.
• Uphold high standards of confidentiality and discretion.
