Job summary

NJ TRANSIT is seeking an experienced engineering leader to manage Newark Light Rail (NLR) systems and drive safety-first operations across traction power, signaling, SCADA, track, and ventilation. You will coordinate with Safety, Capital Planning, and Maintenance teams to deliver reliable service and ongoing improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5 years’ experience in electrified railway systems.
• Experience managing railway MOW programs and workforce.
• Strong understanding of railway safety issues and their impact on service.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day engineering operations for Newark Light Rail (NLR) systems 24/7.
• Ensure safety is a priority and oversee Roadway Worker Protection program.
• Develop and implement employee safety and training programs for NLR infrastructure engineering.
• Schedule and control maintenance across Traction Power, Track, SCADA, and related systems.
• Coordinate planning of capital and maintenance projects with Capital Planning & Programs.
• Prepare plans, specifications, contract documents, testing methodology, proposals and cost estimates for NLR improvement projects.
• Manage administrative process for MOW projects and change orders as needed.
• Select consultants and provide technical support to LRT staff.
• Provide engineering support to analyze failures and develop repair methods.
• Participate in post-incident investigations as part of the Tiger Team.
• Manage MOW budgets and labor relations per agreements.
• Report incidents and investigations as directed by the AGM.
• Oversee maintenance/construction including installation, testing, start-up and activation.
• Support workforce development and career path implementation.
• Administer operating and capital budgets for NLR infrastructure engineering.
