Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Lead Lifeguard/Trainer responsibilities include providing professional and courteous service to every guest. Under the supervision and/or in the absence of the Manager or Supervisor, the Lead will ensure the safety of all guests and effective performance of lifeguard functions and the entire pool operations. This includes rule enforcement for the prevention of accidents and accidental loss of life. The position provides standard first aid, assists with pool operational and maintenance responsibilities, and ensures favorable health conditions by helping ensure pool safety and sanitation standards are met during all operational hours. Participates in and helps facilitate ongoing in-service training programs. Must possess excellent public relations and interpersonal skills, good verbal and written communication skills, and generate appropriate reports regarding accidents, incidents, and other communication as necessary for the Manager or Supervisor. Applicant must be proficient in first aid, CPR/AED, and Lifeguard skills, swimming, and rescue skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Greet all guests in a courteous manner in accordance with department operating standards.
  2. Recognize and respond to all situations safely and promptly.
  3. Provide a high level of safety by preventing accidents and saving lives in all scenarios; rescue swimmers in danger of drowning; and administer first aid when necessary.
  4. Inspect, monitor, and maintain facilities for cleanliness, in addition to health and sanitation standards.
  5. Keep management well-informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, repairs, and chemical adjustments.
  6. Perform inventory and recognize when supplies and/or equipment need to be ordered and communicate the needs to Pool Management.
  7. Provide clear direction, instruction, and guidance to all Lifeguards. Attend and conduct staff meetings or daily pre-shift meetings to ensure timely and effective communication.
  8. Orient new Lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities. Ensure all Lifeguards are current on their training and certifications.
  9. Ensure all Lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
  10. With guidance of Pool Management, schedule, coordinate, and conduct Lifeguard trainings and certifications.
  11. Effectively address internal/external guests to identify and resolve guest concerns. Ensure high guest satisfaction in the delivery of services.
  12. Assist with the scheduling of Lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage of pool areas during operating hours.
  13. Act as the pool goodwill ambassador to all.
  14. Maintain health and sanitation standards of the facility.
  15. Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility, and act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  16. Respond quickly, intelligently, decisively, and in accordance with established emergency and accident management procedures.
  17. Be alert and use logical thinking to assess a situation where life and safety may be at risk.
  18. Comply with Hotel policies and procedures, as well as all department service guarantees.
  19. Maintain a professional demeanor and a great attitude.
  20. Perform all tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
  21. Other duties as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITY: This position serves in a supervisory capacity. Responsibilities may include budgeting, hiring/terminations, Team Member relations issues, mentoring, and corrective actions. This position is responsible for maintaining and providing a positive and professional work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND GUIDELINES
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one (1) year of related experience working in a pool/resort setting and/or swim instructor training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  1. Must qualify to obtain and maintain a Class “A” gaming license.
  2. Possession of/or the ability to possess a valid certification in CPR/AED.
  3. Possession of/or the ability to possess a valid Lifeguard and First Aid Certification.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  1. Knowledge of lifesaving methods and procedures including first aid and standard resuscitation methods.
  2. Ability to withstand high temperatures, heat, and sun, and able to work outdoors in inclement weather when necessary.
  3. Ability to work in a loud environment.
  4. Knowledge of pool equipment and maintenance.
  5. Possess independent, enthusiastic, and energetic demeanor.
  6. Make eye contact while speaking.
  7. Ability to positively interact with the general public.
  8. Ability to work under stressful situations.
  9. Ability to use good judgment.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  11. Must maintain favorable working relationships with all departments and Team Members, to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious work environment.
  12. Ability to act independently while analyzing data and drawing conclusions from written and computer-generated materials.
  13. Must be flexible with hours and/or shifts.
  14. Must be available to work weekends and/or holidays.
