Qualifications

• Equivalent certificates may be accepted.
• Must obtain StarGuard Swim Instructor certification within 30 days of hire.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a certified lifeguard.
• Interact tactfully with the public and work cooperatively with others; act quickly and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day aquatics operations with the Aquatics Manager.
• Step in as a swim instructor and rotate guarding to meet standards.
• Maintain clear communication with staff, volunteers and participants (memos, meetings, schedules, newsletters).
• Work cooperatively with other on-site directors of the RJKCCC program.
• Enforce equipment checkout; report defects and repairs.
• Perform chemical checks as required.
• Perform cleaning duties for pool/spa areas and document completion.
• Attend all scheduled staff and management meetings.
• Audit lifeguards with proper documentation.
• Maintain equipment and ensure proper use.
• Maintain professionalism and problem-solving approach.
• Report injuries promptly using proper forms.
• Maintain a safe working environment and address facility issues.
• Adhere to Salvation Army policies and the Kroc Center Code of Ethics.
• Perform other duties as assigned related to Lead Lifeguard Off Season.
• Must pass a criminal background check.

STATUS: Non-Exempt/Part Time

Qualifications

• Possession of current certificates in: CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), First Aid, AED, and Lifeguard Training (American Red Cross, Ellis, StarGuard).
• Equivalent training certificates may be accepted.
• Must possess or obtain StarGuard Swim Instructor certification within 30 days of being hired.
• Must have a minimum of a year or more experience as a certified lifeguard.
• Meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public; work cooperatively with others; analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action.
• Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Meet all health & safety regulations as defined by the Health Department & The Salvation Army.
• Split shifts schedule may be required to meet the needs of the center.
• Have the ability to work with all members including but not limited to:

Responsibilities

• Will give oversight to the day-to-day operations of the aquatics program & facilities with the Aquatics Manager.
• Will step in as a swim instructor and be in the rotation of guarding when needed to meet operating standards.
• Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, volunteers and program participants. This may include writing of internal memos, weekly department meetings, work schedules, flyers, newsletters, and one-on-one discussions with Aquatics Manager.
• Will work in a cooperative manner with the other on-site directors of the RJKCCC program.
• Follow and enforce equipment checkout program. Report defects, necessary repairs, etc.
• Chemical checks by policy may be required a number of times during shift.
• Cleaning procedures such as vacuuming pool and spa, upkeep of cleaning deck, brushing entire sides of pool and spa, tiles scrubbed in entire pool and spa, etc., should be documented and signed off on date completed following scheduled number of times per week (dependent on season).
• Will attend all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings as directed by the Aquatics Manager.
• Conduct audits of lifeguards utilizing proper documentation.l
• See that all equipment assigned to the aquatics facilities is maintained and properly utilized.
• Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
• See that injuries are reported timely and according to procedure utilizing incident and Notice of Concern reports.
• Maintain a safe working environment.
• Report all harmful problems with facilities to the Aquatics Manager.
• Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
• Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center.
• Perform other duties as assigned as they relate to the position of Lead Lifeguard Off Season.
• Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Physical Requirements

Must successfully complete a 500-yard swim and retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
