Job description

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Lead Lawyer with a background in Investment Compliance or Corporate M&A/PE to manage Transaction and Investment Compliance for the world’s leading asset managers.

Our clients are institutional investors and asset managers operating across strategies including private equity, infrastructure, credit, and real estate. You will be the direct day-to-day contact for clients (deal teams and legal), advising on compliance risk related to live transactions and existing investments.

The role requires familiarity with corporate and private equity deal structures and the ability to assess key risk factors quickly.

We seek outside-the-box thinking investment compliance or deal lawyers who can manage clients in the fast-paced financial services industry—no prior compliance experience is required.

You will work closely with our SVP of Investment Compliance and an international team of ex-Big Law lawyers, paralegals, and analysts, reviewing deal structures and investigating corporate ownership and funds flow to identify red flags, including AML, sanctions, and reputational risks.

This role offers more than compliance; it is suited for lawyers eager to take on leadership roles with high client contact and team management. Investment compliance is a high-growth area in financial services, and Avantia is rapidly establishing itself as a trusted provider, advising key asset management players on their deals. As Avantia grows, new opportunities will emerge, including involvement in LegalTech and business development.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Licensed to practice law in the US
  2. Based in the US (remote work from any state permitted)
  3. 5+ years of post-qualification experience in Investment Compliance, Corporate M&A, PE, Finance, Transactional, or Corporate Support law
  4. Experience representing asset management, institutional investors, or other financial services clients
  5. Strong commercial awareness, solutions-oriented mindset, and attention to detail
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

At Avantia, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse workplace and believe in equal opportunities for all. We value the unique perspectives and experiences each individual brings. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and empowered. Our hiring process is merit-based, and we welcome applications from all qualified individuals. Please inform our Talent team of any reasonable accommodations needed during the recruitment process or employment. We are happy to discuss or suggest adjustments confidentially.
